I own a 1996 Sea Doo XP and am experiencing problems with starting. It will start 3 or 4 times each day and then nothing while pushing the start button. It will then start the next day, then same thing. I have replaced the starter switch/VTI switch and most recently the entire key assembly and had it reprogrammed. Note: it does chirp twice each time I replug the key but nothing when I press the start button. Local dealership thinks it's the MPEM but I am unsure as they originally thought it was the starter button then the key assembly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just went through a ton of theses problems on this 96xp I bought in pieces. Did the mpem repair. A few things to try. [doesn't sound like the brain]. When it won't start, pull the connector from the start switch under the column. 2 wire yellow/red & black. check switch side for continuity when you depress start button. Check for power on the harness side yellow/red wire with key on. If good, then check starter relay in rear black box. Check for power when you hit the start switch on the yellow/red wire going to the start relay. If good then remove the start relay. Had to drill out the rivets, disassemble & clean the contacts inside, then re-rivet.
