Hello,
So I bit the bullet and am getting my engine rebuilt. I fried one of the pistons, so this new to me ski is getting a total makeover.

I have already rebuilt the carbs, but I will pull them apart again to double check.

So now that I have the engine out, And everything is easily accessible, what would you all recommend I change? I have plenty of time (won’t get this in the water until spring) and I’d prefer to never have to pull the engine again(although I have now learned how to do it and it wasn’t that bad. )

Here are the things I am considering. Let me know what you think.

Replace oil lines from pump to engine.

Replace all pulse lines to rave solenoid (when I took out the engine, I found that the pulse line leading to the solenoid had burst before the check valve.)

Carbon Seal (just thought that while it was easy to pull:)

Replace the gear oil in impeller (just cuz it is easy access)

Fuel selector ( this ski had automotive fuel lines when I got it. Not sure if they replaced the selector as well. )

Starter (not sure about this one. It started fine. I just found some nicks on the starter gear teeth. Nothing major)

I’d appreciate your thoughts!

Thanks,
Ken

Sounds like a plan. Don’t replace the starter.
Also on higher hour 951’s they typically don’t survive a new top end, the crankshafts let go. You really should consider replacing the crankshaft and rebuilding the balancer shaft.

Thanks! I am sending the motor off to SES for a complete rebuild. Didn’t trust myself to do that :)

You might want to research SES here a little more before sending to them......

Well, I am finally getting around to putting the engine in, and I am having a little trouble getting the pulse line onto the check valve. Any tricks of the trade? Would heating the line help?
Thanks,

Two thoughts......dip the end of the new hose into boiling water for a few seconds OR WD40 inside the tube and on the check valve then PUSH.

BTW...the hose looks too small for the fitting ????

Thanks! I used silicone lube on the end. I may try the boiling water if I can’t get it all the way on.
As
Far as the size, it is what was on the Sea-Doo and is also the size of the part I got from the parts list. I thought I was going to replace the whole line but just the part between the check valve and the engine is bad.
Thanks for the tips. I am making progress with a Vise grip and two nuts!

Day-UM !!! You are way past the gentle stage. LOL Looks awful tight to me but as long as it works your raves you're good to go.

How bout this! I pulled the cone from the pump, and look what I found!

Not what I wanted to see. It also smelled about as bad as anything can smell. Stunk up the whole house, even though I was in the garage. Now I have to see if the seal leaks or the cone. Hoping it is the cone!
