I have a Speedster and I want to remove the current factory speedo in the dash and install a GPS unit. Two questions, what brand do you recommend using and will the fit right into the factory hole and second how hard are they to install? I was thinking something like a precision star gps unit?

It needs 12v and ground and then there is a sensor that can read through the upper deck to get a GPS signal. It plugs into the gauge and the paddle wheel is no longer in the system.

So it can work with a mechanical gauge? I know the newer boats have a digital gauge but mine still has the mechanical one.

Yes it works with either one. It sends the gauge the same signal that the paddle wheel did but it's GPS accurate not the "Dream-O-Meter".
