98 GTX Limited. LOUD motor noise

My dad was riding our ski today and said it was doing great! All of a suden power dropped off and it stopped. Wouldnt crank back up. Got towed in. Got it home and it cranks fine but with seats off it sounds REALLY loud. A slight rattle but sounds like it has no muffler on it. Anyways where do I start trouble shooting? We premix fuel so wouldnt think it is something from oil failure. PLEASE help. Thanks Chris

first problem was it was doing great, they all do that right before they blow! Just Kidding! How does it turn over without plugs in, what do you plugs look like, compression test?

Well pulled the plugs today and turned to motor over. It turned over fine with a slight pinging noise. Put finger over spark plug hole and front cylinder has no compression what so ever. Back one was fine. What could break and cause this without locking the motor up??? Thanks in advance..... Going pull the motor either way but just wanted a heads up!

Not sure but from my personal experience the engine is loud in general with the seat off. The seat muffles way more noise than I would think it should.
