Hi All, I have just recently purchased a 1998 GSX limited with a 1997 787(110 HP) engine. First time out was a dissapointment as it would only hit approx 4500 rpm when you gave it throttle and was a complete dog out of the hole. Once you got her going a bit the revs would start coming up to 6 or 7k and it would hit almost 55 MPH which is what I beleive the 787 is rated for in the 500 lb machine. I should also mention that I cleaned out the carbs, compression check is 130psi per side and the motor runs great. After checking into things a bit I figured out that the impeller is still the original one for the 951 motor. Its part number is 271 000 654 and is a very weird looking impeller it has a pitch of 9-21. According to the dealer, the 787 motor should "FLASH" to approx 7000 rpm when full throttling the machine. So this make total sense that I have to much impeller for the smaller motor. My question is, what impeller should I use for this combo?? It has the 155mm pump housing so there is not many options for an impeller. I was reccomended to get the solas st-cd 10/16 impeller as it can be used on a 01-05 720 gti as well and the 04-05 3D RFI, and those two are the closest setup to what I have. Am I going in the right direction here?
Im open to any suggestions or reccomendations. One thing I dont get is the pitch of the impellers listed for 97.5 to 1999 gsx limited are all over the map, we have 9/21(1997.5), 16/25(1998),13/21(1999). How can this be if they all have the same 947 engine??

Impeller pitch is a strange thing on skis, and it's not as simple as comparing 2 of them. Since the hulls are different, and the pump nozzles are different... you will see different pitches.

Oh... also... the 951 (947) engine uses a 155mm pump. Your GSX has a 140mm pump. Dont' buy the wrong size impeller.

Ooops, my bad, i should have been a little more specific. The machine is a 1998 GSX limited. It originally came with a 951 engine and does indeed have a 155mm pump. The 951 has been removed and a 1997 787(110hp) has been installed in its place.

I see that u replied to my post, but now are completely passing off my post and ignoring it?
Your reply was not helpfull at all. I really wish you would have read my post before you posted what you did.

I have a 155 pump on my 98 GSX limited and I stated that. Why do you have to go and say that I have a 140 pump??????

Do you really think what you posted is going to help me????????

I need some help on impeller and mabye nozzle selection. Having some respond saying I have a 140mm pump and not the 155mm pump, tells me you really should not be responding to my post. I have both the 140 and the 155 pump housings on my bench right now and I gaurantee I have the 155mm pump in my GSX limited.

Unless you can actually help me, please dont post things like that.

Thanks

Allen

Ummmmm..........

First of all... relax.

Second of all... you said that your ski has an 800 engine. There weren't any 800's from the factory with a 155mm pump. (with the exception of a 3D) I can't remember every year that an engine changed, or what was factory equipment for every ski. I was trying to be helpfull. BUT... since you requested that I don't reply to your posts anymore... I won't.

Good luck

Allen,

I see you have only posted 4 times to this forum, so from that I am going to assume that you haven't been on the forum long enough to know that Dr. Honda is probably THE go to expert on the forum (no offense to the other experts out there) and knows these skis inside and out off the top of his head. I've seen many times people misquote the equipment on their ski. Obviously you were insulted when Doc questioned the pump on your ski.

Agreed that maybe instead of
"Oh... also... the 951 (947) engine uses a 155mm pump. Your GSX has a 140mm pump. Dont' buy the wrong size impeller."

he could have worded
"Oh... also... the 951 (947) engine uses a 155mm pump. Your GSX came stock a 140mm pump. Dont' buy the wrong size impeller."

but he was giving mechanical advice not word smithing a political speech. Either way, I read it that he was merely cautioning you to be sure of the pump you have, not questioning your knowledge.

The appropriate response was to clarify the makeup of your frankenstein ski. Having done that I'm sure Doc would have gotten back with appropriate advice. He stated in other posts yesterday that he spent the weekend on the water and was way behind in posts. Let's also consider that he runs his own shop and may be very busy. If you wanted to PM him, personally I would have clarified what pump I had and asked him based on the clarification what his advice would be. I'm at a loss to understand the intent of your PM other than to alienate yourself from the person most likely to be able to help you. Hopefully you can get your issue resolved, the forum is here to help one and other. Noone is compensated in any way for their participation in the forum. Again, I'm at a loss to understand how you can justify yelling at someone who is giving you free expert advise because they are not responding to your query fast enough to satisfy you.

just my 2 cents.

i have some great idea's but i'm going to keep them to myself
