Hi Guys, My '98 Gsx starts fine, idles fine but on acceleration it bogs down to the point of shutting off sometimes. Sometimes on acceleration although bogging I can get it to plane out but it will begin to bog out and eventually shut off. Any avice is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Do you still have the original gray fuel lines? If not, have your carbs been rebuilt since the fuel lines were replaced? My bet would be insufficient fuel flow is causing the engine to run leaner as the RPMs go up.

mine acted similar, start fine, idle fine, on plane and fast fine. When accelerating from idle to get on plane it would starve of fuel. Cause was dirty carburaters. especially clean the area where the needle seats are. that fixed mine.

Looks like you started this last year. If you changed the fuel lines I am going to assume you cleaned the water separator as well.

Also take your fuel selector out and clean or replace it, there is a good chance of the gooh from the grey fuel lines could have that plugged up as well.

Then the carbs, they will need to be pulled apart, at minimum the little filters in there will need to be cleaned. Personally while you have them off, clean and rebuild with new parts as needed. Make sure to do a pop off test.

Add in inline filter on the supply line close to the carbs.

All the above should rule out a fuel delivery problem, I would also do a compression check to see where that is at.

Miffer, I see your from Welland, by chance have you put Gales Gas in this ski? If so, dont do that anymore.

did you try some new plugs? mine bogged out last year and I put in some new plugs and ran fine.

It is crap fuel, and sometimes it gets really, really bad. I filled up a bunch of gas cans 2 years ago and used it in all the toys and lawn equiptment, weedeaters, ATVs boat, lawntracter etc. After using most of it up, nothing would run anymore, all the carbs were plugged and my Direct injection on the Merc would not operate anymore.

People have complained and have had their injectors and such on their cars paid for by Gales to have them fixed/cleaned. Our local dealer loves it, he is busy all the time.

Take a cup full of Gales and a cup from somewhere else and you can see and smell the difference.

Thanks Kicker, Had done all that on the fuel side and had all the fuel suggestions rec done yesterday including a pop off test which was good. Compression test was good on both sides. Had a mechanic friend listen to it and it hesitates and wants to die out on acceleration, even out of the water....he says it sounds like a timing issue...possibly computer related....any further suggestions? Could it be the coil? we programmed another key and that didnt help either...Thanks in advance

Sorry for the late reply...we double check all fuel possibilities and everything was fine...the seadoo was doing it out of the water aas well, hit it and within a few seconds it would quit....we started checking grouds and bang it ran perfect....turned out I had lost a bolt from the starter and this caused the second bolt to vibrate loose where the main ground was connected....tightened up the ground and all was well....kinda sneaky ......wanted to post result and thank all for there help....always find the folks on here a pleasure!!!!
