Hello, I am new here, and to wrenching on these. Please help if you would. Took the ski out yesterday, 5 minutes out and smelled a strong burning, really strong. Shut it off and paddled to shore. Came home, ran a compression and all is well, then got looking and a small thin hose coming off of the exhaust manifold is totally frayed open. Looks like a mouse chewed it open. i am assuming this is the smell. It is right at the end of it so i can simply cut this torn area off, and reconnect to the nipple on the exhaust manifold. What would cause this? What else should i do? Thanks a lot. Very much appreciated. ronny

Fiset, replace that missing bolt on the exhaust mount bracket.

That hose is melted from no cooling water, not rodents.

You need to find out why you had a blockage and the pipe got hot enough to melt that hose.

thanks. perhaps it passed the blockage and i can put in water and fire it up and see if water is now circulating? or not? thanks

If the lake isn't in your backyard, you can put it on the water hose and see if it is clogged, first , if you want. I did this when tracking down the clog in my system. Just don't run it long. I detached one hose at a time, ran it long enough to see water and then shut off the water and engine and did the next one, allowing for it to cool in between.
