I'm not new to boats, I've lived on, maintained and repaired a 45 foot sailboat for 6 years but I am new to PWCs.

I have a '97 SeaDoo XP that has been sitting unused for about 6 years. I got it running today without much difficulty however I did have one thing happen that I'm concerned about and I can't figure out the source. Below I've linked two videos for reference. The first is the engine running at idle and if you look at the ground you can see some debris. The second video is focused on the debris. Inspecting the interior and I can't see anything out of place. I've studied the shop manual looking at both the cooling system and the propulsion system and I can't figure out where this stuff could have come from. In other applications I would suspect the raw water impeller for the cooling system but that doesn't seem to be a possibility in this application as I don't see a place for one here unless I've overlooked it. Anyone have any idea where this stuff could have come from?

Thanks,
Greg

It could be crap some animals stuck in there or an exhaust hose rotting from the inside.

If that thing sat for 6 rears plan on a complete fuel and carb system overhaul before riding it or your asking for problems.

Also oil has to be API-TC full synthetic, no TCW-3 ever.

I don’t think it’s anything from an animal. It’s a very brittle plastic and I think it may be the through hull at the end of the exhaust system.

Fortunately it has already had all of the fuel lines replaced from the factory ones that deteriorate and clog things up. Additionally it was stored properly with no fuel in the system. It has no issues hitting the rev limiter so far. But I’ll keep an eye on the performance to see if anything starts popping up.

I was aware of the specificity of the oil but didn’t know of the exact specs. Thanks for providing the details.

Inspect your wear ring. I'll bet it is shot and coming apart. I have seen non-OEM wear rings come apart like that.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Had to figure out what a wear ring was but then I knew where to look. Now to order a new one and get it in there.

Thanks a lot guys!!

Better now than when you take it for a test drive. LOL Don't forget the Neoprene Seal. I cheated on my last wear ring job and didn't replace it. The seal blew out within a month.
