I apologize in advance if this has already been asked. I searched and didn't find anything. I have acquired a 97 XP and took it for a ride and noticed some issues with it staying running. I had the carbs rebuilt and fuel lines changed and it does run and start better but has developed another similar issue. It starts great and runs perfect for a little bit. Then it slowly looses power to the point of cutting off. Once it stops if you push the start button it turns over perfect but will not start. If I let it sit for a day or so it will fire back up. I have taken it to a few shops but they don't seem to want to mess with it so looks like it will be me fixing it lol. I have always bought new skis but have always loved this model so I went for the challenge! I start it on the trailer weekly and it runs and idles fine. I am new to the forum and new to 2 stroke skis so any help will be great! Thank you for your time and advice in advance!

Were the carbs rebuilt with OEM parts? If not that could be the issue as aftermarket rebuild kits are crap. If you are unsure I would get a new kit and clean and build them again to include new needle and seats. There is a great carb rebuild thread on the forum that I highly recommend checking out if you are gonna do the rebuild. Did the fuel selector get replaced as well? If the fuel lines were replaced because they were the gray tempo lines you should replace the fuel selector valve as well. Pressure test you fuel system after that and see what you get. I am no expert but that is where I would start.

Check voltage at battery while running on the hose. Rev to 4000 rpms. You should see 13.5 to 14 volts on your meter. If it remains the same or drops or goes above 14 replace the rectifier. Also clean your dess post with soap and water. Dry thoroughly.

Some easy fuel system checks to try are to run it on the trailer until it starts losing power , pull the choke . If it improved rebuild carbs. Also you can switch to reserve on the fuel selector. Many times the on side will quit working but the reserve side of your fuel selector will be good as the on side obviously gets used the most. They both go to the same place in the tank. Reserve just goes deeper into the tank. I ran a 98 Gti on reserve for 2 years. Just some easy things to test.

Thank y'all for the help!! I will defiantly do these checks and see what I can find! Can I run this ski on the trailer with the hose without hurting anything? My newer ski manual says only run for about 3 min max. I can't see anything in the XP manual that says its safe or not.
