1.) Hi just picked up a 97 xp, its in real great shape, runs well, havent had anyproblems with it. I'm just wondering about the cooling. When i hook the ski up to a hose, the "water exit" in the rear of the ski to the left of jet is exiting a fountain of cool water? I am just wondering if that is normal, i thought it should be hot after going through the ski?

3.) How many water exits are there? theres some drips to the right of the jet too out of this hole...is that normal as well?

2.) Also there is a water overflow hose or something coming out of the top of the exhaust and then goes directly left to a nipple on the hull and exits....sometimes this is flowing and others it is not. What is that?? should i be concerned with it?

3.) Also does this model ski have an overheat safety cut off? Will it throw the oil light or just cut out? I found the heat sensor going into the top of the head so i asume so.

Im real nervous about overheating and proper cooling ive had catastrophes in the past, any input would be great. Thanks Eric

Where are you hooking the hose up to? That "exit" you describe to the left of the jet nozzle is where you coonect the hose. Water should always be coming out of the pee hole you describe in #2.

good thing i turned it off then haha.........when i bought it the dude told me i could hook up the hose at this "T" joint going into the cylinder head, i just put a hose on that and then a nozzle on at the end and connected to house. I did find on other forums tho people hooking water up to this location. But please explain about where I should be hooking it up? Why is it in the back of ski, it looks like an exit not an entrance???? Im used to standups, there so simple lol. Please provide me with more information, thanks

I have a 95 XP and I hook the water to the "t" connector at rear of the engine. Place a hose pincher behind that (this forces all the water through cooling system and not simply flowing out the back). Been doing it this way about 13 years with no problems (knock on wood). That's the way manual says to do it (if not reading incorrectly LOL)...

Oh, and don't turn water on until the engine has started/running, and turn it off before engine stops... They say water can go where it's not supposed to go.

I am only familiar with one place you can hook up the hose on a 97 xp and that is to the left of the jet nozzle in the rear. If there is another place to connect a hose, then it was added ( not factory). The tube to the left of the jet nozzle has threads on the inside. You can twist the standard hose end right in.

hey thanks, ya i know about the on and off junk, water can backflow into the intakes and exhaust ports if theres enough water pressure build up....and ya it was just pouring out the back, im sure the way i was doing was cooling some what, jus not 100%, i was feeling the head and exhaust and they seemed somewhat cool lol. But ya thanks for the imput, i hope jjsinc comments again cuz i have the same year as him. Thanks again

i went out to look and its just a plastic nozzle at the end of tube with a rubber gasket around it. its real dark i didnt get the best look but im pretty sure theres no threads. maybe it was removed?? idk, thanks for letting me know.

Also tho, is there an overheat cut off??? And did u disconnect your oil injection???

There's two types of XP from 1997 A sit down without suspension seat and one with. Maybe the one without is a 96 model sold in 97. So different water hook up points. My old 97XP suspension seat model had the water hook up was next to the jet pump.

thanks man ya ive got the seat model with the suspension, i figured out the problem, whoever used it last ripped off the hose from the end and left the threads still in the tube. I hooked it up to the hose again and now it its running and cooling much better...i can hold my hand on the exhaust now lol.
D 5UPE did you disconnect the oil injection on ur xp???
