Hey guyz.

my 97 XP had a computer problem...... I replaced the diode in the computer and it cranked back up fine. Took it out this sat and rode for about an hour, and then all of a sudden it died like i pulled the key off.

It didn't beep anymore, almost like the diode was fried again, but when i replaced the fuse, the engine started spinning over by itself as soon as i put the fuse in!!

I took off my MSD ignition system to elminate that, but now that everythings stock again, nothing still.

If i try to jump the solenoid, it just sparks and smokes like you were touching leads together on the battery!? But the engine isn't locked up.

Idk what to do now, i'm tired of working on this peice. Any one had these problems before?

Thanks again

It sounds like the starter needs to come out and go to the autoparts store for a bench test, if you know someone who has a ampmeter for this high current you could try it at home and open your starter to fix it, the ebay el-cheapo have a very short lifetime.

Hey Voodoo, yeah it sounds like a good idea to me too. I'll take that starter out and bench test and go from there. Thanks for the advice.

By chance, have you ever heard of an engine spinning over by itself?

If the mpem is bad yes, if the motor is running lean and hot it may not turn off - diesel effect - fix the lean oil or fuel before it is too late - pull the choke.

I don't believe the mixture is fine, the ski has been running perfect and then all of a sudden the other weekend i was scootin across the lake and it died as if I pulled the key off. No stuttering, just turned off.

I got to shore and checked fuses. 5 amp was blown. Took MPEM apart and replaced the MR2535L diode (checked bad with Ohm test, it read 0.00). Soldered back together and it fired up perfectly.

Then this saturday I went for a test run, and rode it for about 2 hours or so, and on the way back to the dock the ski did the same thing again. I got it to shore and the 5 amp fuse was popped again, but this time when i put the replacement fuse in, as soon as i touched the fuse in the fuse slot, the engine just started spinning over by itself!

I went to garage a few minutes ago and bench tested the starter. It spun over barley, but melted the jumper wires i had testing it. I believe thats a bad starter.

I also took the MPEM apart again a min ago and did another Ohm test on the diode. Its blown again. I'm wondering if something else in the computer is fried?, or is there metal shaving in the stator maybe that is causing it to blow again? Either could be a possiblity.

I took a test light and everyslot on the computer has power to it on both sides, idk I'm lost lol thanks for all your advice.
