Hi everyone im new to this site. I have read alot about the issue I am having with the ski. Its a 97 800 xp and was running great for 2 seasons and at the end of last year it started bogging at half throttle. I read forums and cleaned and installed new rave valves, changed out old gray lines along with fuel selector, filter, and pulled and cleaned carbs thinking it was a fuel/air problem. I also changed voltage regulator and checked all fuses. It will start and idle great and go to about half throttle then bog down. I talked to a guy and he suggested trying a spark tester to see if I was dropping spark and as soon as I get to where it bogs down the spark goes in and out almost like its hitting a rev limiter. I changed coil but problem still exists. I have read that MPEM could cause no spark but mine has spark until that point. Would that still be the issue im at a loss now as to what it could be. I have tried pulling harness off mpem and all connections look good. Vts gauge comes on when dess is put on and sometimes I get a beep and other times just a click but it always starts when gauge moves. Any help would be appreciated.

Tested stator and cleaned everything up still is losing spark and bogging at half throttle. Plugs seem very wet. Would running to rich kill the spark? Or is it looking like a mpem?

Those are good readings.

Try trimming the Spark Plug Wire Ends at the Boots for a fresh Connection. The Spark Plug Wire Ends break down over time.

If that doesn't help, then it's probably the Rev Limiter.

The Rev Limiter is part of the MPEM...

Thanks for your help. I did put in a new coil also so the wire ends are new. I was afraid it was the mpem. Is the cdi built into mpem also?

Typically two Electrical Boxes:

One Box to House the High Amp/High Voltage Components: Ignition Coil, Starter Relay Solenoid.

Second Box to House the MPEM, CDI, Regulator/Rectifer, Holder Relay, Fuses.

Not sure why Seadoo put the Rectifier in the same Box as the MPEM cause the Rectifier gets Hot like a Pistol and it charges the Battery. The Battery feeds the CDI and the MPEM. Why not put it close to the Battery in the 2nd Box?

Freakin' 180 Watts of Power generated by the Magneto; no wonder the Seadoo Electrical Components don't last long...

I agree would make more sense. Mine would be like this one its in the very front of ski. Second box has coil, starter relay and fuses.

Not on the 97' XP as it has the big integrated MPEM.

Usually just needs the lanyard programmed. You can buy it with a lanyard already programmed for it, or you can send your lanyard. Westside Powersports has been really good for me to get parts from, and they can give you a new lanyard programmed to the MPEM you get from them. Mine also came with a printout that shows the MPEM tested as good.

I had the same issue with mine on my 99xp Bay area power sports sells them I got both for my 99 and 96 xp mpems and they work great. No bog all rip
