If you go to sbt for engine swap it will run you over a 1000 but have it running in no time. A rebuild will take longer.
Plus carbs rebuild over 100
Pump bearings and wear ring over 100
Add changing of fuel lines if current ones grey.
Then factor in hope MPEM works.
Try throwing a battery in there and see if gauges light up or you hear two beeps?
Plus now you need trailer.
Since season slowing down I'm sure there are no lines wanting it. Most ski non running are not more than 100 in some parts.
You should be able to find xp/spx running with new engine already for less than 1500 with a trailer
All720 speaks the truth. Myself I would go over there and give the guy $150-$300 for it because the parts support the other skis I have. 97 is the "free flow" year for that exhaust so just that white muffler is worth 75-100 bucks.
Condition is important. I clean ski kept inside might be a good deal at $300 and well worth saving. But if it's ugly and blown with no trailer then I'm with 720.........offer him a hundred dollar bill!
agreed what the guys above said.... my 96xp was in good physical shape didn't run i paid 100 last october... btw the ski itself is a great ski..... i have roughly 1200 total into mine (mods included) and all the work was done by myself, i bought new carbs for 429 so that was a huge chunk of it and seemed everything wasn't working but motor had 155 PSI in both jugs....
Im with everyone else id try to get it for $100. Ive got a 97 on cl with trailer that runs good 150 153 compression. It hasnt been in water was told there was a leak for $675 and no one has bit on it yet, not even for a dumb trade. So I doubt they will be getting $300 anytime soon.
its in great condition other than the seat is ripped (not worried about it though) it isnt blown but needs a tune up, gas lines, seat, hydro-turf, batterie, and trailer.
if it ends up being a money pit could i get back my money in parts?
The ski looks great, decals are good paint is good. On the seat there is a small tear, but i had planned to put a aftermarket one on anyways. The motor is not blown but isn't running. It will turn over, so that says can be a total loss. Gas lines need replaced. One thing that does scare me is that i don't know if the VTS works. But overall mechanically shouldn't take much to get running. Needs new hydro-turf mats too.
But if it does take a crap on me after i buy it can i get $300 out of it for parts?
The white ones belong to my race skis and were painted white(they all start teal, yellow or purple I think, oh there is a rare red one too). I picked up two more single gauge hoods last week.
