'97 SPX hesitation

My SPX fires right up, idles nicely, although a bit high, as when I hook up water line when it's on trailer, I have to shut it off because it will just keep revving up faster.

The engine handles smoothly at mid-range RPM's, but has a serious hesitation when giving it the throttle at most any RPM range, but when it kicks in, you best be holding on. I've also noticed it sputters briefly if not planed off well, or after going over a big wake/waves. It has new plugs, but I'm not a carb. mechanic - anything I could or should be looking for or just take it into Seadoo dealer and let them fine tune it?

BTW, we bought these with the idea that my wife would always ride the SPX and me on the GTI, but that's changed after I finally drove the SPX - she can't have it back...reminds me of a motocross bike on the water....

That's a great ski you have there and I to love the ride. It sounds like you need to do the fuel system. The grey lines need to be replaced with black automotive if not done already. Unscrew the white plastic fuel filter and clean it. Make sure the O-ring is in it's groove when you screw it back together. The fuel valve should be checked to make sure it does not bleed air from one channel to another. The accelerator pumps like to fail so it may not be giving you that little squirt of fuel when you hammer down on it.

I have gray lines - I have a clear line with a filter on it but it appears to be an oil line? I can't follow the gray fuel lines to the front as my hand/arm is too big to reach in there, so not sure how to access that end. Apparently, the air box comes off the carbs direcly or is it clamped on to them? I see it's mounted to engine block. The GTI also has gray fuel lines, but gas and oil tank aren't crammed up front and I can get to the gas lines in it.

If you want your engines to stay healthy and not destruct, replace the gray fuel lines. Then pull carbs and clean/replace only necessary parts. Clean/replace fuel selector valve. Check fuel vent valves.

I am not a mechanic either but with the resources here I was able to accomplish all of this and more and had the satisfaction of accomplishment and having it done right.

I'm not seeing a fuel filter on either machine. Where is it? I talked to SeaDoo dealer here and he said he's rarely replace fuel lines and he's been around 20+ years. I thought about splicing gas line and putting filter/coupler on afterwards just to see if I have internal corrosion.

That dealer must have his head in the sand. Those gray lines need to go ASAP or your carbs and little filters inside the carbs will clog ( from the ethanol in today's fuel dissolving the lines. It creates a green goo) leaving you with a lean burn and a toasted motor. Just search the Internet for gray tempo lines and see for yourself. You do not have to take our word for it. We are just trying to help you.
