I got this pair last summer and spent the off-season breathing life back into them. The xp is running great, the spx is a little sluggish at mid range to top by comparison, especially when whipping it around and accelerating under heavy load/turning, They both top out around 51-52 mph.(240lbs) I've adjusted low and high speed screws, little difference. Spark plugs indicate neither are running lean, the spx might be a bit rich. The xp moves noticeably faster at idle.
Here is a list of what I've done.
Carb rebuilds, by the sticky
Fuel lines
Selector
Cleaned raves, caps adjusted to optimum performance
Jet pump rebuilds
Wear rings
Cleaned up stock impellers
New spark plugs, gapped
Snipped wires
I have recently replaced the bellows in the waterbox regulators, the spx had about 3/16" of washers under the spring, with the cap adjustment flush with the top. Could this be the reason it isn't running right?
The old bellows seemed to be in good shape without any holes. I have not been on the water since doing this, might make it out this weekend. The only other thing I know to check is the voltage regulator. I have a new one. But haven't installed yet.
