I have a 97 seadoo bombardier gs that I got from my neighbor (been sitting outside for years) my issue is that I only get a click when trying to start it! Or it will turn over every 100 tries.

got a new key made for it, new starting solenoid, and even tried a new mpem. Also battery is brand new fully charged. I’m still getting the same issue I had. I still get the 2 beeps when putting key on post and then I click start stop button and nothing just a click. About to give up and sell it, any ideas on what this problem could be would be much appreciated. I’ve spent hours checking all grounds, cleaning connections, and testing with multi meter. I’m just out of ideas.

If the motor and pump turn freely with hand with spark plugs out I venture to say starter problems. You may be able to tap on the starter with small hammer and see if it will turn engine over. If it been sitting in weather I say the starter at least needs to be rebuilt if not replaced.

When I Jump the solenoid with screwdriver it turns over fast

Try the solenoid screwdriver a few times with the button in-between each try. You might have a bad spot on the starter that you just got lucky with when jumping the solenoid.

If the starter is bad, rebuild or replace with OEM only. The aftermarket starters do not last.

Since you're getting a click I bet your button is fine. My guess is a bad starter.

What do I need to do to test the start stop button

Tried what you mentioned still nothing but a click when trying the start stop button.

No, the coil affects spark. Not a coil issue.

Do you have a multimeter? If you test voltage from the solenoid to ground you should get 12v on one post and 0v on the other. Then when you push and hold start, it should be 12v on both posts to ground.

Can you test and let us know? Also, there are some small wires that go into the solenoid. Try unplugging those and checking that at least one is providing 12v only when the start stop button is held.

If you're getting 12v to the solenoid and 12v to the control wires, sounds like your new solenoid is bad. Did you get OEM or some cheap Amazon part?

I’m getting 12 volts on solenoid post and 0 on the other post. Un plugged connector that goes to solenoid and get 12 volts when button is pressed. I purchased the solenoid from a guy and he tested it with a machine/ multimeter and told me it was working as it should.

also another part of the story is when I installed this “new” solenoid the jet ski turned over... but it didn’t stop turning over until I disconnected the battery terminal! Almost like something like the solenoid got stuck. Maybe that fried it?

Hook things back up and see if you get 12v on both sides of the solenoid when the button is pressed. If not, bad solenoid.

Don't know if whatever happened fried it, but it sounds bad.

Buy a good one from seadoowarehouse.com or osdparts.com and enjoy your sea Doo.

If the selenoid stayed on,,,i am guessing either a sticking stop start switch,,unlikely,,,,or mpem issues.

Getting 12 in and out of selenoid when button pressed and jumping selenoid are both doing the same thing, sending 12 to starter. They both must have the same result.

Solenoid (starter relay) troubleshooting

I think your problem may be from mpem to solenoid.

According to this post, it says that when off, it supplies 12v to both sides of the solenoid control line, but when you hit start it grounds one side.

Earlier you said you got 12v on both lines. Did you mean you measured 12v to ground on each line or 12v across the two lines?

Read through the post... I think it may solve your problem.
