I have a 97 Seadoo 787 XP that will not start. We just rebuilt the engine and carbs. The engine is getting fuel, I have compression and spark. We set the reed valve to what the manual said. The only thing that it does is it back fires out of the carbs. Please help I have spent the last 3 months trying to figure this thing out. What do I need to do.

i have had so many problems with my 787 and i had spark compression thought my rotary timing was off only got it to backfire once so i took it to a shop, mind you this is a brand new motor, well one thing they said was my woodruff key sheared and that controlls when it sparks so it could be ignition timing just a thought

did you send yours out to east coast cycle in pa to have it rebuilt? seen you were from pa? thats where i sent mine and ive been trying to get it going for over a month since ive gotten it back:rant:

Backfires out of carbs

I think I read somewhere that if the spark plug wires are reversed the engine will back fire. Since you rebuilt yours recently, are you sure the spark plugs wires are on the correct spark plug? Maybe that's a problem with the GTX RFI only (but yours has a carb)...
