97 seadoo 717 oil leak!

Hello everyone I have a 97 seadoo Gti with the 717 engine I’m seeing a puddle of oil I’m not sure where it’s coming from should I just block off the pump and go premix if so witch lines do I have Join to go premix thanks

Blocking off the pump and going pre-mix is not highly recommended.....the oil pumps are generally reliable....the hoses and such should be serviced/replaced though, especially the little 3/32" TYGON lines from the pump to the carbs.
 
Post above is spot on, don’t go premix.
Typical leak points are oil tank seam and tank rubber grommets.

Also make sure you are only using API-TC oil, no blue or green oil.
 
This old dog (me) can still learn new tricks :thumbs-up:.

Let's face the facts.....the oil lines have a shitty life...constantly exposed to splash, bouncing around, age, etc.....they dry out/stiffen up over time, can crack in the most inaccessible places, the oil tank is constantly subjected to shock from use (even when restrained with rubber straps).....plastic tanks crack (pull the tank and check the seams - as miki stated) - there is a Youtube video floating around about how to fix the seam crack(s) if you find any, new oil tank grommets are still findable.

It'll be messy, but ultimately satisfying to find and fix. Done it!

I’m gonna see where my leak is I’m thinking it’s somwhere under the carb side I see the engine mounting plate with a puddle of oil right on the side of the carb where the pump is
where the oil line next to the starter side it’s pretty dry
 
So my conclusion is I’m gonna leave it like that with the oil leak

My 587 and my friends 717 have a leak in the same area, under the carb/intake where a hose goes into the engine, after trying countless ways to disconnect the hose clamp we left it as is, its in a terrible spot to access properly to undue and see if the end of hose is cracked.

Yes I put my cell and record it I’m thinking it’s from that hose in the bottom
I mean to take the clamp off would be no problem to put it back I’m like yeah not worth the struggle not enough space plus I just did the wear ring and the carb seal on it
I should have done it when all that was off and lift the engine up but when your doing to much work to a jetski it’s no fun I’m hoping it will survive with the leak not worry about wasting oil
 
You realize that those little 3/32" oil lines are the most common point of failure in the oil system?

Leaving them, especially if you know they are leaking is a sure way to seize an engine.
 
I think those are good but I’ll replaces those the big bottom one is the one that it’s a struggle I won’t bother with

Have you run your hand along the hose to see if it's wet with oil up higher? If it's leaking at the tank grommet onto that hose up high, gravity is going to cause that fluid to eventually migrate down and drip off of the fitting or clamp under the engine.

You can at least rule a high leak out before futzing with the engine fitting/clamp.
 
Yeah I did that the grommet has a small leak but the hose were dry and in the bottom it was wet so I screw in the bolts from the pump a little tighter in case that was it but I’m thinking its the big hose in the bottom
 
Generally speaking....high rpm engines need all the lubrication they can get to avoid self destruction. Yes, some of the oil line connections to the engine are in places no hands can reach easily without pulling the engine.....so with that said....take a look at this attachment to help (at least) to isolate the oil leak......if you can eliminate everything on the top side (reachable), then at least you can confirm where the leak most likely is.......

The 12mm line below the intake manifold from the oil tank can get cut from the hose clamp and leak. I have seen this quite a few times.
