We got this ski a couple weeks ago and after some initial starter and battery issues got it going and able to start instead of just clunking. The last trip out I pulled it back up to the dock and shut it off only to have it not give me a beep or anything at all when I tried to start it the next time. After some reading I checked the post and the key with a volt meter and both check out fine. All the fuses in the MPEM are good yet and all the connections I can find dont look corroded.

I'm wondering now if it's the MPEM, which would suck as used ones are roughly 500. Is there a good way to test this before I go spending money I might not need to?

It is very common for the beepers to go out.

So if you install the key and it operates normally but just doesn't beep the beeper is bad and needs to be replaced.

If you push the start button without the DESS on the post, does the gauges activate?

Check all connections and grounds.

Typical failure points on the 97' XP are the two plugs to the MPEM and the extra long battery cables.
