97 GTX won't start but get a "pop"

I'm trying hard to get my girlfriends family jet ski running after sitting for about 2 years (97 GTX).

it has a brand new motor in it that hasn't even been broken in...just been sitting.

I bought a new battery and only got a pop from the rear electrical box...checked all the wiring and cleaned and replaced everything, and still nothing but the click/pop sound.

When I install the lanyard, i get no beeps but i still get the pop...and if i hit the start button without the lanyard in the display still comes up...so im assuming the MPEM is fine?

i keep reading about jumping the solinoid or relay...how exactly do i do this? Picture would be great!

This is a good test to determine if there is a problem with the relay switch or elswhere. Use a large metal tool, like a wrench and place it across the two large posts on the relay, ones with large red wires. What you are doing is equivalent to closing relay and connecting those two red wires together. One wire goes to positive terminal on battery, other goes to starter. So you are thus connecting battery directly to the starter. Starter shound crank engine but it won't actually start running because the ignition is not energized unless you also have dess key on and press start button.

I would first make sure engine turns freely by hand (without spark plugs) after it's been sitting up that long.

how do you manually crank the GTX's engine? not familiar with these engines at all...actually haven't really looked too closely at that area except to replace the plugs

OK I jumped the relay and she tried turning over...do relay is bad, correct?

does anyone know if the relay from the 97 GTI can be swapped in or completely different? thanks.

switched out the relay with the old GTI and she tried to turn over! gonna pump out the old gas and get some fresh gas in there, same with oil...add alil seafoam to the gas and hopefully get her running this afternoon!
