hi all my 97 gtx is having problems, the machine starts up with a bit of effort in the garage (bit of priming) but get it in the water and it becomes differcult to start. it turns over slowly but if i remove plugs it spins over quickly, ive replaced starter and battery it almost goes to a hydrolic lock. im sure its not head gasket as it runs too well, but i was thinking battery cables may be losing voltage under load does this sound likely or does anyone else have any other ideas?

Yes, thats VERY likely if the cables get very warm or hot. It may be the starter is rusty internally and needs
new brushes too. I cut the battery cable lugs off and solder on new lugs, and marine shrink wrap with a torch.
