97 GTX 787 Problems

Hello guys, I'm new here and new to Sea-Doo's so bare with me. My father and I just purchased a 96 and 97 GTX, both with the 787 engines in them. We know about the current problems with the grey tempo fuel lines and have replaced those and rebuilt the carburetor in the 97. Now we got it started, ran it for around 40 seconds and then shut it off. We let it sit for awhile and we tried to start it again, no luck. Even sprayed some starting fluid to see if it'll go and nothing.

What could the problem be? We replaced the spark plugs as well. A mechanic friend of ours is saying that we're getting too much fuel to the spark plugs and that something could possibly be stuck in the carburetor. Anyone else deal with this problem before? I'm just confused that it started right up, and then can't get it going at all now. Thanks guys!
 
Did you use OEM carburetor kits? If not order OEM and redo carbs. Use original springs.

Ahhh, this was the one I ordered here. Turns out it was for an aftermarket Mikuni carb... You live and you learn I guess. Thank you. We will order an OEM rebuild kit, any idea where the best place would be to get them?

Edit: Anyone know if that kit could still work with the stock carbs or would I just be better off getting an OEM rebuild kit and starting over?

The after market kits are no good and rarely work out and usually leak fuel. If it were me I would order OEM and redo. OSDparts
 
OSD.com Get a pop off tester too. You must check the pop off value. It's like $25 from OSD. You can use a bicycle air pump to get air pressure for the testing. Read the sticky at top about carbs. Google Search at top right can be used to search fuel problems too. Try putting some mixed gas in air box above carb and try. The pop off tester can be used to test the fuel system for air leaks. It is way easier to suck air then fuel. Look at the stock fuel filter under the front hatch cover. A lot of times the gasket fails. Try by passing it with a bit of tubing. Make sure you did not break nipples taking old fuel lines off. The repair manuals are available for free on the Internet. Feel free to ask questions. We all have been there at one time or another. A 20 year old ski is right up our ally.

Make sure you have the fuel lines right too. There are arrows on most cast right in on nipples for direction of flow. Attach a section of line to one at a time. The in direction you should be able to blow in but not suck out. The out line you should be able to suck but not blow in. When you try to start pull the choke all the way out with throttle all the way open. It helps to pull fuel to the carb. The little rubber center hold downs plugs on the pump side check valves need the right tool to install. You lacerate them and they will leak air and not seal. Or just fail to work. OSD sells the correct tool. Or you can make one out of a ten penny nail and an air cut off or drimal with a cut off wheel.
