I posted this in the welcome threads but it probably belongs here instead?
I am usually on the motorbike forums and have found them to be the best source for information, repair tips and upgrades. I was only looking for a triton aluminum trailer to convert into a light weight motorcycle hauler but it looks like I may end up with a 97 GTI to go with it. I have no experience with PWCs except the couple of times at the lake on friends skis and once in Key West around the island. The owner says he “hit a pile of gravel and lost power”. I really had no interest in the ski and was planning on dropping it off at the dump or a salvage yard but the more I think about it the more my inner mechanic says (ahh how bad could it be). Best I can figure from reading around on here is it will need to do a compression test, new fuel lines if they are the grey ones, a carb rebuild, possibly an impeller with a wear ring and shaft if damaged. I’ve not seen the ski yet but plan on picking it up tomorrow. If it’s in good shape is it worth saving for some fun on the lake or more trouble than its worth and a money pit?
Thanks!

If it isn’t gonna cost any more to get the ski with it you might as well at least do a compression test on it.

That’s probably the most reliable ski that seadoo made. Great handling 3 seater and simple and reliable 720 two stroke engine.

If the owner is correct you should be able to get by with a new wear ring in the pump $30 and send the impeller to Skat-Trak for refurbishment $75-$150.

I would suggest checking compression before spending a dime, should be 150psi and like you said fuel filter, fuel selector, fuel lines and carb rebuild, injection oil filter and verify correct oil.

It really is a great ski.

Awesome, thanks for the reply! I have noticed your post in several of the threads I read while I was lurking on here before becomeing a member. You seem very knowledgeable and helpful. I’m sure I will be picking your brain.

I have the same ski only in purple. I did a full rebuild on mine planning to sell on or use it to lure my wife into boating (she refuses to drive mine stating it’s more plane than boat).

Short story - Rode it, loved it, kept it.

The 720 GTI isn’t the fastest, but it hardly uses fuel, is bullet proof, and an absolute blast. I love it.
