97 GTI oil leak...can’t locate it

I am wondering if the case was damaged when the bilge flooded.
Nah !!! I wouldn't pull that engine apart and reseal the case either. Not if it is in good shape that is. I think Id go with oil resistant RTV. Drain the oil reservior and get the level below the leaking area. If you don't the oil will seap into the RTV before it dries and create a leak path. Good Luck !!

the plot thickens.....came out today, oil under intake and exhaust again. Oil on oil pump. Pull air filter and carburetor.....intake is full of oil up to carburetor....what the heck?49518AA3-F984-4FE1-9736-AFFDC3977342.jpegx

That would suggest bad inner crank seals.

At this point I would pressure test the engine and rotary cavity to see what is leaking.

8 psi for at least 10 minutes.

Also those are cheap cable ties on the small oil lines. you really want to use the high quality ones with the stainless locking tab.

It is much easier with the engine out but then you have to align it with the alignment tool.

My engine supplier doesn't have anything right now and I'm not working with anyone else so I'll be doin my own I guess. I hate full rebuilds.

Isn’t there a company you can send them off to? Or a good source for a complete rebuild kit?

Is Fullbore a reputable company? How hard is a bottom end? I can rebuild a 32valve ford v-8 successfully.....I think I have the skillz. Fox Valley power sports sells a complete remanned one for 995 +core

FullBore does good work but they are extremely slow to get your engine back, like 6+ months slow, Same with SES.

Honestly if you have rebuilt a V8 the seadoo engine is nothing.

I contacted fullbore and am waiting to get the turn around time for a full engine kit with matched cylinders and pistons. Anyone heard of fox valley powersports?

Think I would be better off ordering a bottom end kit, getting my local machine shot to do the cylinders and then Get pistons? the crank is always replaced with rebuilt or new?

No, most local machine shops don't know how to do 2-strokes correctly. Unless you have a shop that does a lot of 2-strokes. I send all my cylinders to Group K. He can either sell you pistons or he can measure your cylinders and tell you what size pistons to order then you have them shipped to him. For pistons I like either OEM or Pro-X but WSM are perfectly fine for a stock rebuild.

There are no new cranks made anymore so a lot of people are using WSM from PWC Muscle that is a site sponsor or SBT. You can't rebuild the crank yourself like a car.

I like to use OEM gaskets and especially crank seals but the WSM complete kits aren't bad either but even then I still use OEM crank seals. I don't kike SBT gasket quality.

Sorry to keep asking so many questions, two stroke is all new to me.....would 1200 bucks Plus core for a full reman with 1 year warranty be a decent price?

I was around $1000 (shipping, gasket kit some other odd and ends stuff) for one with a year warranty from SBT had it in about a week and half after I ordered it but that was in February.
Unfortunately I had no idea SBT had a bad rep when I ordered it my fault for not asking here first but I have it now and it’s running fine for the time being hopefully it’ll last time will tell.

The fox valley is 995 plus core plus ship.....for 147 ebay will warranty it for a year.

PWC engines is basically WSM from what I understand. SBT is fine but nothing special. SES and FullBore are probably the best but actually delivering the engine before summer is their big flaw.

If you want an engine fast and warranty probably PWC or SBT is your only option.

I called group k to see how quick I could get a crank and cylinder service on mine

Not sure if they still do cranks. Cylinders are typically 2-3 weeks.
I know at one time Group K did full engine builds that would be better than they left the factory but not sure if they still do or the cost.
