97 gsx mpem

I just got a 97 gsx as a project ski, but the previous owner fried the mpem and replaced it with a 98gsx limited one part number 278 001 558, is there any way to get this mepm to work on a 97 with the 800 engine instead of the larger 941 engine?, or anyone know where to get a used 97 gsx mpem from? as cant go any further with the ski till get this part sorted first.

nope, won't work. you'll need an 800 mpem 96-98, non RFI, doesn't have to be a gsx, xp should also work fine but sometimes when you use different models you lose some gauge functions.

they are on ebay quite a bit used.
you can sell the gsxl on ebay but helps to have a programmed key and to know the hours on it.

If was to use an 97xp mpem what functions and such would I lose?

prob fuel and maybe trim , the fuel and oil level could be off , could be

Do you think losing theses guage functions would be a big issue to the running of the ski? got the ski cheap so not overly bothered with the guages.
