Greetings:

Recently purchased a 97 Challenger (single engine) and have a question on engine flushing. Reading through the owners manual I see there are two flush port connections. One near the top of the turtle deck (fuel fill area) and the other on the transom. The one on top has a plug, while the one on the transom is open (un-plugged), is this correct? My guess is that this is one of the water outlets during normal running and sould not be plugged?

The manual states that either plug can be used for flushing, though the top one is preferred (then the transom tubing will leed to be plugged). Any idea why this connection is preferred over the transom?

Just seems to me that the transom connection is way more convenient.

The idea of flushing on the hose is to use the connector under the deck lid. Unscrew the cap and attach the hose. With the deck lid open, it also allows it to be vented in the open air too while running. Start it up first then turn on the water. If you have too much water pressure it will come out the rear port on the transom. You shouldn't need to run it longer than 5 minutes at an idle to flush it out. When your done shut off the water first, than the engine so water won't back up into the engine through the exhaust system with it not running. Remove the Hose and put the cap back on. I also spray everything down with silicone spray or wd-40 to dissipate the water and coat everything.
