So today I finally got around to doing the starter on my xp which was still the original one from the factory, got everything back together and try to start it and i hear a loud clunk like the starter is trying to turnover the engine but it cant get it to, it will do this for a couple times then it will just be a clicking noise and some humming. tried jumping across the solenoid terminals but nothing just a bunch of sparks. Im lost as to what it is. Bad grounding or something?

Remove the plugs so there's no resistance on the starter. If still hard to turn, remove the pump and driveshaft, then try turning mother

so could you turn it over by hand? And try hooking one jumper cable directly from the case of the motor (nice clean spot for a good ground) to the negative terminal on the battery. Then carefully clamp another jumper cable directly to the hot terminal on the starter motor. Then tap the other end of that cable on the positive battery post. It has to turn the motor over or you have a second bad starter. If it turns it over, then you have a bad ground or hot cable.

Howler, I have you my advice because I've seen this so many times. Reason being, but may not be your situation and that is to, to remove the plugs. Sometimes these motors fill with either a leaking needle or full of oil. With having no place for the fluid to go, to you'll end up breaking a rod/bending it.. Trying to compress.... Remove the plugs, dude

I tried pulling the plugs and trying to connect the pos and neg straight to the starter. nothing worked not a single noise from the starter. which is strange because last weekend i hear hear it clunk like it wanted to try to turn it over. no I have nothing.

I can find my way around a car engine but seadoos are uncharted territory, how would i go about trying to turn over the engine by hand?

So tried to turn it over by hand and it wont budge a bit? is this thing frozen up and destined for the junkyard?
