96 XP - Sucking in water?

So the other 96 XP in my pair has an issue that I haven't been able to suss out yet. If I let it sit for just about 5 minutes I can get on it starts right up and it'll rip just like it should for about 250 yards. then the damn thing starts stuttering and missing and I have to crawl back to the dock just above idle.

It almost feels like it's running on one cylinder it's got a shimmy to it, front end shakes a little bit, etc.

And then if I park it and let it sit it'll go again like a bat out of hell and then do the same thing.

I thought it might be missing on one cylinder so I pull the coil unit and change the spark plug caps test of the resistance and all that and everything's fine there.

my nephew seems to think that it might have a leak somewhere and it's sucking in a little water so I'm going out right now pull the plugs and check them for any evidence of water.

So to sum it up when I first fire it up another run for a minute or two perfectly then stutters like it is missing on a cylinder or wants to die. When that's happening at idols just fine and I can creep it back to tether it back up.

Even though you checked the coil,,,it sounds electrical...the part warms up and fails,,,it cools down,,,and then runs,,,swap the rear electrical boxes,..see what happens,,,

Changed the plugs and the plug caps. No sign of anything off with the crankcase or mixture.

I'm thinking the same thing. Going to pull the front electrical box and go over it. Definitely a short of some sort, especially since there are times when it runs perfectly.

As soon as it comes off idle, if it stumbles bad when it happens, won't really run accept at idle.

check your voltage when riding or on the trailer.
my xp did the same thing,
regulator was bad and once voltage goes up above 15 goes to crap.
as stated before you can disconnect the red wire from the regulator in the grey box and see if that solves the problem.

I have a pair exhibiting the same issue and hopefully will get to checking out the regulators this weekend.
