96 XP Problems

I recently had some water get into my start/stop switch of my 96 XP and corrode the contacts causing it to fail so I bought a switch off of eBay . When I hook the switch up I get 1 loud beep and nothing if I disconnect the switch DESS beeps twice and I can start the ski if I jump across the switch wires any suggestions would be appreciated .... Also the switch said it was from a 94 Xp and will work on all X4 hull based water craft is the 96 Xp switch different from the 94?
