Hello everyone. I have a 98 XP thats blowing the 5amp on the MPEM. The guages and VTS still works its just not starting. If I unplug the three yellow wires from the rectfier the fuse does NOT blow. Would this be caused by a bad rectifier?

Thanks
Bill

Water in the VTS box Can interfer with mpem, so just disconnect the motor & the
2harness, that will eliminate that possibility from the issue. Metal particles in the stator or a bad rectifier can blow a 5 amp fuse. When and what was last item fixed on the ski?

Nothing was recently fixed. Everything was working fine but now I still get power to the guages and VTS but get nothing as far as starting. Someone on here said that if you unplug the yellow wires from the rectifier and the fuse doesn't blow then its probably the rectifier. Is that true?

*Update*. On the rectifier the three yellow wires, 2 male and one female. If I unplug the one female and leave the other two plugged in the the 5amp fuse will not blow.

those yellow wires are coming from the stator assy....so i'd pull the mag cover off and inspect in there.

rectifier test...

red wire disconnected and 5amp fuse stops popping = bad rectifier

yellow disconnect = "majority" of time, metal debris inside the stator

I read somewhere on here if you have your yellow and red rectifier wires plugged up and you unplug the grey harness of the front of the motor (I guess the stator plug) and the fuse does NOT blow its a stator problem. Is that true? I tried it and the fuse didnt blow..

Thanks for the help guys. I have a rectifier coming and I will take the engine cover off and check out the stator and see how it looks. Hopefully I will have it up and running by the end of the week.

Thanks
Bill
