Well i've made a couple posts here and have determined my front crank oil seal is bad and needs to be replaced, I'm tearing into it and am at the point where I need to remove the flywheel.

How can I lock the flywheel in place to get enough torque to wrench this nut off?

Can I wedge something between the teeth and the housing. Seems like it would work but i'm worried about chipping a tooth off the flywheel. The motor is still in the ski...could i wedge something in the jet drive? Again I'm worried about damaging something. Does anyone have a good method for locking the flywheel?

remove the spark plugs and insert a piece of line into the spark plug hole. Bring the piston till it hits line an compressions it in the combustion chamber...then remove the nut. If you try and jam anything against the flywheel teeth or the jet drive you will for sure damage something.

Tried that. didn't work and honestly was kinda scary. So I pulled the exhaust manifold off and stuffed a rag in there per the sbt website. So I definitely have it locked up but still the nut will not break loose. I don't have a torch and don't have an impact wrench. Any other ideas?

...and once i get the flywheel off. do i need to take the housing off as well to replace the oil seal or can i replace it with it on?

i just took mine off of my engine, i had the engine out tho, i belive you will have to split the crank case to change the crack oil seal. i used a quick clamp (quick grip) , to hold the flywheel, then a torque wrench/big spanner to crack the nut off off.

Well i ended up just taking the motor out and took it up to the marina here. The guys there know me and are pretty cool. So they just took the flywheel off for me...the bad news is once it was off we could see that the bearing behind there is shot. It's actually missing balls. and they said the pistons looked burned too...even tho i just checked compression and had 150psi in both cyl.

But with the bearing gone and the balls missing, who knows where they went or what damaged they caused. I'm thinking it's time for an sbt engine.

On another note when I was pulling the motor. the drive shaft came out of the drive before it got loose on the motor. Does this just slide back into the drive. Is there a seal i could have messed up back there by pulling it out?

I have just done the same thing, really tried not to aswell. i am going to take the pump off the back today. i did manage to slide it back in by looking underneath and guiding someone else from the top.
i am going to pull it off and change the rubber bumpers anyway, just thought gone this far why not!!
