Hi, I recently just signed up to this forum, I have to say, this site is totally amazing for people like me who want to understand their Sea-Doo's and not be so dependant on dealers for sometimes simple fixes !!!

Anyhow, about my problem, I have a 96 XP 800 , runs like a top after I read the instructions on this site on how to tear down, clean and adjust the carbs !! the 2 filters inside the carbs were completely plugged which explained the lack of top end throttle and speed.
The problem I've just discovered was excessive water in the hull after running wide open for 5-10 minutes. If I run it half throttle, the bailers pump out the water no problem and everything is fine !!

I brought the ski back to the docks, removed the seat and went for a little ride without the seat, sure enough, if I run it full throttle, water somehow gets in but let off to about half throttle and it gets pumped out !!
I checked all the water cooling hose and clamps and everything is good !!
My final atempt is I removed the PTO protector cover and took it fo another rip.
Voila, I found my water leak !! I just need some help on fixing this !! If I run it easy, no leak but as soon as I throttle it, water comes spraying through the carbon ring seal on the shaft !!! What could I possibly check or try to stop this leak ??
There seems to be enough pressure against this ring cause there are NO leaks when the ski is just sitting in the water, no leaks at low throttle but has quite a spray when running FULL throttle !!

Anybody heve this happen and what was the fix ???

Once again, this is an AWESOME site !!!!

Thanks,

Thanks,

The carbon seal will leak more at high rpms than just sitting in the water. First make sure that you just don't have loose clamp. Make sure the clamps on both ends of the bellows are snug. Also make sure you don't have a hole in the bellows. You don't say anythign about cavitation. If the carbon seal is worn enough to leak you should be seeing cavitatiopn on takeoff, high rpms without going anywhere for a few seconds. If the clamps are tight and no hole in the bellows you can try a couple things to verify the carbon seal is leaking. Putting a layer of marine grease between the carbon seal and the Stainless Steel ring will help hold the seal so it doesn't suck air and leak water. You can also snug a zip tie around ONE (not both) of the sections of the bellows so it doesn't compress as much under pressure. If those things stop your leak, they are temporary fixes but you need a carbon seal

Thanks for the quick reply !!!
Yes, I did forget to mention that it DOES cavitate on take off !! I checked all the clamps and all is good !!
I did confirm that the spray comes from the contact point at the carbon ring when I pin the throttle, with the cover removed, it sprayed me in the face !! LOL
Could the bellow have lost it's strength in keeping enough pressure on the carbon seal ?? Or do I just replace the seal alone??

Thanks again for your help !!
