Did Break-In on the SPX this weekend took it slow.... really slow. The ski Ran terrific and is a blast even at less than 50% throttle.
On the Second day we took all the skis out for a ride and after about 20 minutes or a bit more we headed back. I was not riding hard just up on plane, less than 50% varying throttle position etc.... On the way back it began to miss. I slowed... no choice Ha ha. The cylinder came back to life slowly and I made it back to the camp. I didn't shut down but played around cuttin up and such. It began to miss again. It stayed running and the lazy cylinder would pick back up again....
I'm thinking I got a bad ignition coil. Drops then picks back up for a bit. If you find the "happy spot" it will run a long ways without missing a beat. Once you speed up and put a power demand on the engine it will falter and run on one cylinder. Then after a few seconds no more than a minute or so you can hear/feel the dropped cylinder begin to fire. Pretty soon it picks up and you need to be gentle applying power.
When we got back to the camp, I clipped the plug wires, and installed new plugs. I rode the ski a few times after that and had a ball still taking it easy. It missed a couple of times so I'd slow up a bit and then play some more.
Definitely seems electrical.
This is the ski I recently put together. New top end, carbs done, new fuel lines, fuel valve, and lots of TLC.
