I have a 96 SPX, and did a complete overhaul this winter including new top end, carb rebuilds/ fuel lines and selector. I have been having the issue of when i go Wide open throttle the jet ski begins to plane and holds speed very well, then all of the sudden it dies out. Had this problem last season and this one. Maybe a bad Stator?

Are you able to start the ski when it kills? If you can, than likely it is a fuel issue and it is not the carbs. Do you have an in line fuel filter on the system? Other than the Seadoo water separater up front. If you do I would suggest removing it as your problem will likely go away.

It does start after dying, the only filter is the OEM seadoo fuel filter can. Could that be an issue? Also sometimes like today it didn't want to start after dying.

If it just completely dies and restarts like someone pulled the kill switch it’s typically the lanyard or kill switch.

Ride the ski at about 75% power and see if the problem still occurs. As Legacy says, air leak in the fuel system will do it and one of two places usually. #1 the fuel separator gasket. The other is the fuel valve.. Like Mikidymac says.... could be electrical as well. They are sneaky. :D

I had a 787 RFI that would run great then just kill and start right back up immediately. I had an additional MPEM. I replaced that and it didn't do it again. Sure is nice having the kinda stuff around.

Now my 96 XP 787 would run to the same point (Location on the bayou) wide open and kill every time. I'd restart and run at a slower speed and the ski would be fine. Then go wide open and it would do the same thing over and over. My fault, I installed a coffee screen as a filter on the bottom of the fuel baffle. It wasn't as fina mesh as the original, much larger holes but that dang thing restricted fuel flow to the point that at Wide Open throttle it would exhaust the fuel in the baffle faster than it could refill. Crazy. The give away for me was the fuel gauge low level light would come on. LOL Talk about strange. Ha ha.
Good Luck !!

On a side note I tested the coffee screen before installing it by flowing water through it and it seemed to be unrestricted. I also increased the surface area of the filter. I though everything was accounted for and then some. Since the specific gravity of gasoline was less than 1 (water being 1) it would flow just fine. Now I wonder if the surface tension was the culprit. I dunnow... what you don't know can cause problems for sure. LOL

Yeah is still occurs at about 75% throttle might reinstall the oem metal fuel valve and check all the clamps, what if its a bad rectifier?

I have a Mity Vac and another type of pump that can apply pressure or vacuum. I test the fuel system using both methods. I pull 8-10 pounds of vacuum to make sure I have no leaks. If I find a leak, I pressure test. You could have an electrical problem. I believe someone suggested a compression test which is always a good idea if you're not sure of the engine.

So I checked my rectifier, I watched a video on how to test it, and i was getting 17- 18 volts, so I will replace the part and run it again.
