I have replaced evrything that charges the battery on my 96 SPX and the battery still discharges after running for about 30min. The only thing that I can find I might be doing wrong is I have purchased 2 rectifiers from ebay. What are the chances that 2 different people would sell me 2 bad units? I even tried the battery from my SPI and it does the samething. Can I test the rectifier with an Ohmn meter or do they either work or don`t?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Did you check the stator?

It's highly unlikely that you got 2 bad regulators... but no, there isn't a good way to test the regulator. (other than to put 20v AC on it, and see what you get on the other side)

Do you have a short in the VTS?

The only thing not working on the VTS is the gauge on the handle bars. I checked for continuity on the coils on the stator and they were replaced with new ones last year. Can the charging coils be shorted out and not show signs of any burn marks. When I replaced the stator plate I did not notice the wiring harness goes through the hole and around the back of the plate. (I was new to this operation) When I put it all back together the fly wheel cut all 4 wires in half. I ruined the mpem. But when I got everything replaced again and back together , it starts fine , it just wont charge the battery
