I have a 96 sportster with 718 rotax motor with twin mikuni carbs. Has 135lbs of compression in each cylinder.

Here is the problem i put it in the water after top end rebuild. ran good first two time. 3rd time in the water it would go the suddenly lose power like it was running out of fuel. So i pulled the air cleaner and watched the fuel while i drove. It would go good for 5 seconds then no fuel spray at all.

Do you think its a fuel pump or some thing internally in the carbs? the internal filters are clean.

Thanks for anybody that replies greatly appreciated.

Clean the carbs and the filers before you melt your engines. On a 2 stroke... if you aren't spraying fuel, you aren't getting oil to the engine.

While you are cleaning things... check the fuel select valve (they are known to plug up) and the water separator/filter.

This maybe another case of fuel line degradation plugging up everything, causing surges. So check fuel tank for crap in the bottom also and in addition to Dr. Honda's suggestion, I would add Change out your fuel lines to fix the root cause. Search for fuel surge problems for assistance here.
