Hello Everyone,
I just got back from the Colorado River (Laughlin) and was having an issue with my 96 GTI. When I would ride by myself all was well. It did bog a little but would bounce right back. Once I had two or three people on it would bog more and the pump seemed like it was slipping. In fact one time I went with three people and it never got to speed. It would rev up high but would stay at idle speed. It makes sense to me that it would be slow to get to speed with three people but to not get to speed at all? Anyway I have no idea why it works well with one person an struggles bad with 2 or more. As always any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Adrian

It is probably your wear ring. When they go it feels like the clutch slipping in a vehicle. They are easy to replace and will cost about $45.

Thank you for the reply... I figured it might be that! I will check it out today. Do you know what the tolerance is?

Thanks, Adrian

Okay... I pulled the pump and the wear ring inside where the impeller is looks good. Not much of a gap at all, however when the pump came off there were pieces of the wear ring attached to the hull. Not sure if the were in pieces before or after I pulled the pump. Also I noticed that two blades on the backside (other side of shaft) are slightly bent upward. I included some pics! Thanks for your help.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Update!!!
Okay so I changed the wear ring. When I took off the impeller two of the trailing edges were bent upwards (one of them bent pretty good). I got the impeller back into shape and installed the wear ring and impeller but I noticed that the clearance/tolerance is at .030-.035 in some areas. For a new wear ring this seems to be a bit too much. I'm pretty sure the wear ring is not OEM. Any suggestions? I'd hate to put it back together just to take it apart again.

Thanks, Adrian

I have heard of bad luck with aftermarket wear rings. I only use OEM.
Also since your impeller is very questionable and you are in the Western us like me I can't recommend Skat-Trak enough. They will refurbish your impeller to better than new in less than a week.
