I’m having trouble getting my ski to start. I checked it at home and it idled fine and started fine. At the lake I have to choke it to get it to start then keep it idling and working my way into the throttle. The only way I can get it started is with choke and no throttle. I can not get going instantly ever. But once I get it going it’s just fine. Drives, idles and can run up and down in speed fine. Any help or ideas on what’s wrong would be great. Thinking I need someone to reset or rebuild the carbs. I don’t feel comfortable working on them.

You should definitely rebuild the carbs with only genuine mikinin kits, replace fuel selector, replace fuel filter o ring, and all grey fuel lines. It may seem intimidating at first but its really easy, there is a carb rebuild sticky that will show you step by step how to rebuild the carbs

While I certainly agree with all of Mraw's suggestions.....doing all those things will take the ski out of service for a reasonable period of time, and that's not necessarily a welcome thought at the height of Summer......HOWEVER, it certainly sounds like you have a fuel delivery issue, so you don't have many options to get around that. BITE the bullet, do the work and get back to riding......with dedicated perseverence...the work can be done in a day or two once all the parts and pieces are assembled.

If you are not going to do it yourself, good luck finding a shop that'll work on older 2 strokers.....and even IF you could find a shop....you are looking at PROBABLY a couple weeks of down time at a minimum. At 24 years old....old skis are relegated to self-service mostly. Good Luck.

The work is not rocket science....a little patience and guidance and sticktuitiveness and it's all do-able.
