Pretty new to this !
I just bought a 1996 gtx seadoo early this summer. I noticed a few things with it pretty early but only thought it was due to a worn wear ring. replaced the ring but issues still occurring. When running the sea doo i notice white smoke coming out of exhaust and leaving a lingering fuel scent. Also, sea doo will run normal until about 3000 rpm then will begin to rev very high from 4000-7000 rpms but wont accelerate. Not sure where to start and haven't found any luck online.
I appreciate any help!
thanks.

How much smoke? Two stroke engines will smoke due to the oil in the fuel mix. The other symptom you are describing is one of two things. 1) cavitation. 2) drive shaft slippage you replaced the wear ring, but how is the impeller? Is the gap between it and the wear ring within specs? What shape is the carbon ring and/or rubber boot on the carbon ring? Cavitation can also be caused by air getting into the pump.

I would say a decent amount of smoke. It isn't a large amount all at once but it keeps smoking while I push the throttle.
The gap between the wear ring and the impeller are within specs. I will have to look at the carbon ring/rubber boot tomorrow. What would cause the cavitation? I haven't heard of this issue.

If the carbon seal is worn and not making good contact with enough force behind it or if the boot is cracked, the pump will draw/suck air into the pump (which should only be full of water) and cause cavitation.

Put it in water and remove seat/hatch and see if any water is entering any where in the areas of carbon seal or boot while the engine is running.

Based on the description of smoke, it sounds normal, but realize thresholds for individuals could be and often are different. A video would go far for helping us there.
