96 GTI will only accelerate while doing a donut!

I am serious. I can only get my 96 GTI to accelerate up to speed while doing a right handed donut. If I try to accelerate straight it gets a high RPM but won't go past 15 or so. If I try a donut left, nothing. If I do a right side don't and feather the throttle it will eventually get to speed. If I try to turn out of the donut before it is at speed I lose power and it goes back down to idle! Any ideas? It sat for a out two years. The drained the gas out a few weeks ago, bought a new battery and took it out. The only problem I had was a leaked tuned port exhaust, but no acceleration problems. I fixed that took it out and now this. Ugh!! So frustrated.

When you turn right,,,the prop is spinning with the water,,,So,,my load tests are doing large circles counterclockwise,,,to put the greatest load on the prop and motor, and carb,,,.you may have compression issues,,,or carb delivery issues,,do a compression test first,,,,that is easier than going through the carbs.

It makes that much of a difference?

In your case yes,,,you are either low on compression/power,,,or not enough fuel is being delivered,,,my honest guest is poor compression/motor issues,,,is it charging?,,
