96 GSX starting issues

Hello everyone. I bought my wife a 96 GSX 800. We have been out with it about 4 times so far but have 1 very annoying issue. The ski will start on the trailer time after time but the minute it is in the water it will not sart without goin full throttle and hitting the starter button about 10 times. Then it barely will run at about 500 rpm at full throttle for about 15 seconds and then all the sudden it just takes off. Now i have alot of exper in the tuning field from my bike building and racing career, but this acts like a computer/elect issue. when it starts it runs all day long. I personally did some high and low speed adjustments on the carbs as it was running rich here in MT. Corrected elevation here is around 6000ft as the gsx was bought in CA close to sea level. I have Idle set at 3000 rpm on the trailer and is 1500 in water with the load. I could be running in the water at full throttle, let off and it comes to a nice idle, hit it and it responds immediatly. If you let it come to a idle in middle of lake, hit the off button and try to restart immed, will not go! And it is not a flooding issue. I do remember back in 96 on the Skidoo snowmobiles, as i was working at a dealer at the time, the DESS system was introduced and had alot of issues. I remember we were doing alot of programming for warrantys. Have the seadoos in this era had any problems with this issue as to starting and need reprogramming from the dealer? I have burnt up two starters in two outings so far and need to find the problem. Has new Battery also. Any help from a Seadoo Expert would be appreciated. Thanks

re: "And it is not a flooding issue."

sounds like you know alot more than i do but just to note there can be flooding issues if the carbs are rebuilt with an aftermarket kit rather than OEM.

Have the gray Tempo fuel lines been replaced?

Yes the lines in the fuel system have been replaced and i dont know for sure if the carbs have been gone though for sure. The carbs respond well with no issues as far as running. What problems do the aftermarket carb parts cause? Even a flooding issue will still restart with full throttle very quickly. BUT we r dealing with a rotarty valve engine vs a reed valve engine, i am not experienced in the rotary issues.

the aftermarket kits can leak when engine is stopped, flooding the cylinders, making it difficult to restart.

That makes sense to the problem, but i have even turned fuel off running into shore and having no effect to the problem. i planned on tearing into the carbs and checking the rotary valve for issues but wanted to make sure it wasnt a electrical/ computer problem first before i did that. The thing that really drives me nuts is the fact that you can run it out on the lake and everything working well and bring down to idle at 1500 rpm, turn off and immediatly try to restart and same problem exists. I have a hard time believing it is flooding in 4 seconds and wont start. Its pretty confusing!

usually the warm restart problem is after the engine is off for several minutes. my '96 gsx often requires full throttle for a cold start, but starts fine warm. not sure why
