951 timing procedure

can someone walk me through the steps to check/adjust timing on a 951 (1999, GTX Limited). It's backfiring through the exhaust loudly. I think the timing may be off but I cannot find the procedure in the shop manual to verify it. I can find the 717 procedure but not the 951.

No timing procedure. Already timed through the MPEM.
Could be a carb problem, ignition coil, or possibly a bad reed valve.
