I've recently rebuilt a 951 engine in an xp ltd. supposed to be 98 but who knows - it doesen't have any graphics.

I'm a bit confused about white and silver engines. The jugs on my ski were originally white and painted over silver. Not sure about the crank cases - they may have been originally white.

I read somewhere that the white 951 had a few issues. What were they ?

I read the silver engines were better - is this true ?

I also read that skis with white 951 had a diffferent impellor that the skis with the the silver engine.

Just trying to work out what i've got so i can make it faster. I've never been that impressed with the performance even after a complete rebuild

Thanks is advance for any insights :bigear:

The 97.5 GSX had the white engine. (Gray Hull)
Seadoo only produced the white engine for one half of the year and never produced them again.
Seadoo used the public as a test bed for the newly designed engine. Mainly to keep up or stay ahead of the competition.
Most of them blew up, because of several issues that included improper cooling, not enough piston clearance, etc.
Seadoo, under warranty, as well as, a class action law suit replaced or rebuilt most of the white engines using the upgraded specs of the improved design silver engine.
Even though the engines look the same, none of the engine components will interchange i.e., cylinders, rods, crankshaft, rods etc. except for the cylinder head and the exhaust. In other words you can't use one silver engine jug and one white engine jug.
The carbs on the white engine mount 180 degrees (front to back) from the silver engine carbs.

Those the had a white engine said that the ride was amazing just before they blew up.

jhjesse,

Thanks for that.

I just rebuilt the engine from new parts crank, rods, pistons - parts were for a 98 xp and so if the parts fit then mine must be a silver 951 ?

Also with the carbs mine has the choke cable attached pto side top of the carbs and the fuel enters the carbs from mag side top. Is this the carb orientation you would expect to find on a silver 951 engine ?

I'm just a bit confused why my jugs were originally white (under the silver spray paint). white paint job looked original. Could it be some sort of primer undercoat ?

Cheers,

Phil
