Just purchased a 1995 seadoo xp. We took it out to the lake and it can be tough to start. Once it gets going at full throttle it will max out at 4K rpm and will not get over 10mph. Just jumped on here to see where people think we should start. Gas is full and so is oil. New battery is in. Thanks for trying to help.

What maintenance has been done? The hard start after running leads me to believe your carbs need to be rebuilt, the needle and seats are leaking after it shuts off and floods the engine. Also, the wear ring in the jet pump could have to much gap.

As you'll hear here many many times. Any new ski to you, the fuel system MUST be rebuilt before you even got the water. A 2 stroke relies on a clean for system for the engine to last. If it's not getting the right fuel it will meian out and boom, your engine is toast. So, let us know some back ground as there's still more to do before you hit the water again.

Without knowing the history, there are two things that could tell us a lot 1) what is the compression of each cylinder? 2) what color are the fuel lines?

So today we just changed all of our fuel lines because we heard about the green goo, checked each carb they are at 140-145psi. Still having a hard time starting up. You have to mess with the choke and get a lil lucky

Have you taken the carbs off and checked them out? I would highly recommend a genuine mikuni carb rebuild kit but at the very least open them up and give them a good cleaning.

Also we have no real background. We messaged the guy who sold it to us and he won’t respond. Not a good sign haha. We are planing on getting into the carbs tomorrow. Thanks for all the info.

Yes, if you had green goo from the old gray fuel lines, you need to rebuild the carb’s with genuine mikuni kits only. There are tiny filters in the carb’s. The green goo will clog those. Also replace the fuel selector valve. Cleaning it does not really work. Either replace or bypass. Also replace the factory water separator/filter and o-ring for that. Check the fuel vent valves for correct functioning.

The compression is still ok for now.
