Ran a little on trailer at low to mid rpm checking plugs. A little wet and starting to brown up a little in mid throttle took it for a spin. Ran good. Went full throttle to do my high throttle chop and right when I was pulling lanyard I felt something. Limped back to ramp maybe 10 Mph and loaded up trailer. My linkage rod came off my carbs so I was running on the front carb only, back to ramp. Gas is 50:1 premix xps with injection too. It was idling 3000 at home and 1500 in water as supposed to. After getting out of water and reconnecting Rod it's idling 1500 out of water. Did I hurt anything coming in on one carb? Don't see how that affected the idle speed. Are these plastic ball cups supposed to have zip ties on them to tighten them up so they'll stay attached or what?

Not quite catching your drift on the linkage rod.
The only linkage rod my 787 has( i know your 720), is the choke linkage rod. The throttle cable linkage has the balls your talking about but ive never had one come loose. Does the ski still run fine?

Yes it ran fine on the trailer after limping back thinking i blew a piston. it links the two carbs together. It came off therefore the front carb was no longer opening the rear carb. Idled fine, revved fine after putting that rod back on. Was almost dark so didn't put it back in the water. It just idles at 1500 out of water now. Maybe a cylinder got loaded up I have no clue.

maybe the vibration when the linkage was off loosened the adjustment on the linkage. make sure your carbs are synced still and reset the idle. maybe check plug temps at idle to make sure both cylinders are getting fuel.

Will do when I get home. Y'all don't think I hurt my engine? Back piston was a tad wet on Top after this. No holes in either thank God.

i'm not sure what could have happened to the motor, my 95gtx with the 657x and dual carbs doesn't have the linkage like yours. does the oil pump cable run off of the PTO carb? on my 97 xp there is the linkage between carbs with the mag carb worked by the throttle cable and then the linkage pulls the pto carb, and the oil pump cable is pulled from the pto carb.

if you ran very fast on the one carb, the cylinders might not have been getting enough lubrication is the only possible issue that comes to mind, but if you ran at idle or close to i don't see how it could be very bad.

Sorry for the triple post. Phone issues. It's like your 97...hadn't thought of that! I had to hold it half throttle or so to keep it running but it wasn't running too much over wake speed. I have premix xps at 50:1 so maybe that's enough to save it.

All this talk about saving it , have you done a compression test ? If you took the head off and inspected the piston and cylinder walls I would think you would get your Awnser .

Not home from work yet and no compression gauge. It had high 140s before. Gonna look it over when I get home. Might even take it back to the water. Zip tied to close the ball cups tighter on the linkage rod so it should stay on now.

When you find one on sale BUY IT! you'll use it more than you think .. Trust me lol
And cool, let us know how it runs .

That question right there is opening a can of worms on this site ^. You'll find people that swear by only the best gauges for far over $100. I myself found one in an ACE hardware store with yellowing plastic packaging for $40 . The thing had to be 15 years old atleast when I bought it but it has never failed me yet and was made and calibrated in the USA. I used it against a SNAP on and got the same exact reading as that gauge . In my opinion if you can find one for sub $50 jump on it .
