No sound when starting. Nothing. Have replaced the fuses, new battery. Had been sitting for 5 years. Seemed kind of locked up. Have released the lock-up by turning the shaft. Could I have fried the starter trying to start a frozen engine? It never seemed like it even engaged. Doesn't seem like any power to the starter. No clicking or any noise from the Solenoid. Can I check power to the starter without removing? Anything else electrical that I should be looking at? Thanks.

On the starter solenoid you should see two posts, one of which runs to the starter. Put your negative voltmeter lead on the negative terminal on the battery and the other on the post connected to the starter, hit the start button and see if you get 12v, if not you could try jumping it by using a screwdriver to connect the two posts.

First things first...don't assume a new battery is any good...have it load tested and it should be at 12.7 volts for a good start, I assume all your connections have been gone through for clean, bright and tight, check for corrosion and continuity along the wires and harness connectors.....lots of bad things happen when a ski sits for 5 years...she won't be ready to rumble right out of the gate...
1) with battery connected and NO KEY installed....does the ski wake up if you hit the SS button? Does anything happen on the guages? If nothing...you are not getting any battery power to the MPEM OR the SS button is dead
2) assuming you have battery power and the ski woke up....install the key...do you get any beep beep? If not, buzzer is probably dead....fix the buzzer
3) If you got the beep beep, hit the SS button...nothing? do what Mraw said.....if the starter tries to turn but is very sluggish, remove the spark plugs and try again...

Thanks for the trouble shooting guide. The olds ones don't beep so you don't get that indicator. I'm going to have my new battery checked before I do anything else. Thanks again

Hey - I’m dealing with similar issue on 97 speedster. Battery on no key gauges do wake up, but no beep, no start. So will busted beeper keep the ski from starting? Just trying to diagnose most likely issue....

No, a bad beeper won't keep it from starting, but having a good beeper can be helpful in diagnosing problems.

Thanks for that. Also been having intermittent problems with the neutral safety switch. Is there a way to check that?
You should start a thread of your own so the original poster of this thread can deal specifically with his issues.

But yes, you can test ohms on the neutral/safety switch. When pressed, it should read infinite, released, it should read less than one ohm

I think the beeper is an indicator that you have some power and the mpem is probably ok.
