95 seadoo XP sucked up some weeds...kills on throttle

hey my name is brett.. i am new to this forum.. and i guess i could say new to jet-skis all together. i bought a pair of skis last week (95 and 96 XP) and had fun on them last week. this week however.. has been a week from hell... that started saturday.. when i forgot to put the drain plug in mine.. and flooded the whole thing pretty much.. long story short.. i got it running again thanks to reading this forum. now as i was trying mine out... my girlfriend got hers stuck in some weeds.. so we spend 20 min towing it back.. get it on the trailer... sure enough there were weeds down there.. so we clear it all.. put it back in the water.. start it up.. same thing. so i thought maybe she flooded it.. giving it too much gas to start it up.. so i was going to hop on myself see whats up.. when i noticed smoke coming from the front. thats when i stopped everything and brought it back home.. at home i ran it for a few seconds..with the hose connected... and there was smoke right away.. so i dont think its from overheating.. it smells like exaust.. any idea what is up? i didnt want to run it again.. just incase.. would like to get an opinion. im sorry if this is posted somewhere else.. but i looked really hard.. and couldnt find it. any help would bre greatly appreciated! thanks

Probably have an exhaust leak or something. Can you tell if its leaking somewhere? Sometimes shoving a mirror down in there will help determine if the pipes are alright. Could be a clamp came off or something stupid..

so.. i found out a little more after work today where the smoke was coming from... i've included some pictures.. there is a hose that blew out.. or has a hole in it.. that obviously wasnt there before. so now my question is... where do i go from here? i can get a replacement hose im sure.. but was this caused by sucking the weeds up like that? and if so.. how... or where.. do i check if its still clogged. ive already cleared what was in the ports on the underside and impeller..

Actually...as I was looking at it and comparing it to my other jet ski....it appears that some one might have replaced the hose on it once before...it doesn't look as thick as the other one. I guess I'm going to try to replace the hose and see what happens...I'm guessing the hole in the hose would cause it to not go anywhere? Hopefully that's the case

I found this same hose blown on my 1999 787 and am trying to figure out what causes it. Mine stalled out in the water and now wont start in the water at all, but will on land. I have the whole exhaust taken apart right now assuming there is a blockage somewhere just dont know where to look.

It's just one parts that deteriorate over time! With The resistance being but on the drive system, the weeds, caused a little warmer exhaust coming through! No biggie! Replace the hose and drive like u stole it!

umm its not radiator hose guys. You can't get this from NAPA.

It is marine exhaust hose parkeryamaha sells it or westmarine does.

If you use the wrong hose it will just keep melting away.

thanks for the reply! yeah i was comparing it to my other XP... and noticed that the hose on mine is WAY different... so whoever replaced this hose last time on this one obviously used a hose that wasnt going to work with it (probably why it burned up so quickly).. so as to a replacement.. is there anywhere i could get one locally around here that would work? or should i wait the week or so and spend the 20 bucks and order it online from one of the seadoo parts place?

I can't say it will or won't work! But when SeaDooSnipe says it will, I would take his advice! I read the entire thread and there's a lot of great info on there! Thanks for using the search engine to get a second opinion! I wish more folks would use the search!

caution

If you are towing a Seadoo like yours without a hose pincher you are apt to fill the engine with water. You have to tow very slowly to avoid this. Buy a pincher and learn which hose to put it on. They are cheap.

An exhaust leak inside the engine compartment will quickly compromise the air quality going to the carb as the carb gets its air from under the seat. Yes there are openings or tubes connected to the outside but they work when the ski is moving fast. If you are on the water and get a sudden leak, take off the seat and ride standing to get home.

alright.. i got both back out on the lake.. i did ended up using radiator hose.. and its been working fine so far! was out for a good half hour or so...however i did run into another problem.. her ski started sinking (not too much).. and the drain plug was in.. i did notice a hole in this pipe...water is coming out at a steady stream...

i kinda noticed it before.. but it became a lot worse today... i didnt think it would fill up that fast... but obviously i wasnt thinking at all! anyways i was kinda reading up on the forum here... is it alright to use JB Weld on this to fix it up?

talk about problems! just my luck

awesome! jb weld seems to be working! thanks again. was able to get out and have a trouble free weekend finally! i noticed some surging at high speed on mine (96 xp)..and was reading up some more on this awesome forum.. and we both have grey fuel lines X-|.. so that is my next project. I heard a lot about cleaning the carbs.. which i dont even know where to start.. never have done it before....i have a service manual.. but looks pretty complicated. the RAVE's... looks like i can clean those...they dont look too bad to pull. any good suggestions to look at on how to clean the carbs.. or should i chicken out and bring it somewhere so i dont mess things up?

Glad we could help! Saved u from being ripped off by a mechanic! The lines are a snap! The carbs have a loud bark but don't bite! There're not as bad as they look! If it will survive the summer, you can make this a winter project. You can take your time and not have to hurry! One suggestion I have. Go ahead and redo the entire fuel system! Lines, clean carbs(don't rebuild unless u have to), replace the fuel filter, and fuel selector! This will ensure many summers of joyful riding!

yeah i think i will make it a winter project.. its not too bad.. it does it once in a while.. then its fine... then it will do it again.. etc.. seems to be when i slow down.. then give it gas... it will go full for a bit.. then slow down again until i let up.... but it will work for the summer its a 787

I loves me some 787!lol. Great motor and as long as it's taken care of, will last forever! The carbs are simple! Last year I started my fuel system project on my 787 GSX! I'm finishing this week! I wish I would have done it all at once!

The JB weld will only last for a few months, there is a lot of water pressure on the back side of that plug. You will eventually need to get it welded.
