I recently finished a top end rebuild on my 94 xp. The first time i had it out it started right up and ran great for about 15-20 minutes, then started bogging and i could barely keep it running then it shut off. It would not restart so i pulled off the seat and the motor felt hotter than it should be. I waited for awhile and let it cool down and then it ran great.

This past weekend i had the ski out for 15-20 minutes again and the same thing happened. The motor felt very hot and would not restart. After cooling it ran fine but i only ran it about 8-10 minutes. when i came in i checked the cylinder temperatures and they were 140 degrees F. each but felt hotter.

Any ideas what the problem could be? And what is normal running temperature for this engine? Thanks

Check the cooling lines for a blockage. Is the "Tell Tail" squirting water? If not the cooling lines are blocked.

I did check that and water is running through the cooling system. I can grab the exhaust and header after riding and it is hardly warm but the cylinders are a lot hotter so maybe there is a slight blockage? It does take about 25-30 seconds for water to start coming out of the cooling system.
