Title basically says it.
This past weekend, I obtained two 93 seadoo SP's from an old friend who claims they ran two seasons ago. I took them off his hands, in hoping that they would be a good beginner ski for my nephews.
First thing I did was purchase new batteries, and attempt compressions tests.

Ski 1: Cranked just fine, but will not turn over. The compression test was 145 on both cylinders.

Ski 2: Would not crank via ignition switch, but did with bypassing the starter solenoid, would not turn over though. The compression test was about 148 both cylinders. This ski has a milky water sludge in the hull, just high enough to hit the battery base plate.

Question 1, what suggestions/troubleshooting advice can anyone offer to get these running. Also, any ideas on what is either causing the water/sludge in ski 2, and any ideas to get it out?

Thanks in advance!

So when you say “will not turn over” I assume you mean will not start since they will turn over if you got compression numbers?

Try putting a little premix down the carbs and see if it will fire. Then we can narrow it down to a fuel or electrical issue.

Ski 1, new plugs and getting spark. Put premix in the carb, and still wont start, just cranks.

Ski 2, new starter solenoid, new plugs but still wont crank via starting switch, only by jumping solenoid. No spark.

Thoughts?

My experience.....'96 GTX, would crank til the cows came home, would not start. I tried everything except the carbs.....I finally pulled them out and opened up the feed side....where the gas first enters the carb assembly....it was gunked up....that ski would never start in this condition. Cleaned the carbs, checked and cleaned the little filters inside the carbs (at this point I did not replace any carb parts...re-assembled the carbs into the ski....still cranked well, a little gas down the carb throats and WHALA.....started right up and maintained itself from there.

I have since re-built the entire carb assembly (with SBT am kits) and nothing but problems.....ALWAYS stick with OEM/Mikuni carb kits...save yourself time and aggravation.

NOTE: It was possible for me to open up the feed side [PULSE] of the carb without removing the whole assembly out of the ski (I got really good at it once you understand what your doing and how it all fits together).
