I know my question may be controversial, however, being a man I have to ask.
The crank on my 93 GTS is frozen, so, I presume it was caused by water ingestion a few years ago.
(At that time, someone swiped my drain plug, thus providing an opening for water to enter the engine compartment. I did not know that when such happens, water also enters the engine via the carbs and if not ejected forthwith, the water provides a catalyst to rust the bearings on the crank. In my case, water sat for at least a month and although I got it out and the Doo ran all summer, it finally froze on the last day of summer last year)
Ok, yesterday this non-mechanic pulled the engine to get to the crank.
Now comes the controversial question! I saw SBT's advertisment for cranks, however, I've heard from several retail sources that they are JUNK! Each source says the same thing: If you don't buy ours, then buy from anyone else except SBT. SBT cranks won't last for more than a season!
Does anyone have any comments or suggestions who to buy from. I gotta get it next week.
Also, I've found many 580.7cc engines for sale for the price of a SBT crank, $200, but I figure, it makes no sense to buy a fifteen year old engine that I don't know how it was cared for. Does that make sense?
